Pet Postcard Project Reminder

Just a quick reminder that we’re still collecting photos of your pets for this project through September. Details below — woof!

There are lots of dogs and cats on Twitter. While lurking one day, I discovered the Pet Postcard Project. Writer Nikki Moustaki created the project to help raise awareness and feed shelter dogs. For each postcard sent via US Mail, one pound of dog food will be provided to animal shelters. Rachael Ray’s Nutrish brand is the current sponsor of donating the food and all of Rachael’s proceeds for Nutrish dog food go directly to Rachael’s Rescue.

My contribution to this worthy cause is asking pet owners to send photos and sentiments about their pets directly to me (and RiverDog Prints) via email and we will create a postcard for each day of the month of September. Together, we can give shelter animals 30 more pounds of food by month’s end.

If you have a pet and you’d like to participate, you can send your pet’s photo and a sentiment about your pet to scout@riverdogprints.com. We’ll both be tweeting about it, so follow us on Twitter @ScouttheDog and @RiverDogPrints.

Just Love Me

Not too much to ask. I always love you – it’s never even a question in what I call my mind.

I can do it by pretending you’re a dog. Dogs prefer dogs – that’s just a fact, jack. And in your own way, you pretend I’m human. Or at least you project human behavior onto me. And I LIKE it.

So, in my head, we’re just a pack, jack. Your big brain might say otherwise, but don’t you prefer just hanging with me to almost anything else? It’s completely the shiznit :)

2 Dogs 2000 Miles

I love to find out about a person or a pet that is sent on a journey by his or her beliefs. Brave and admirable, it makes us all want to do better with whatever we tackle.

2dogs2000miles1

2 Dogs 2000 Miles is a walk from Austin to Boston for all those touched by cancer. Luke Robinson began this walk in 2008 in honor of his dog, Malcolm. Malcolm was diagnosed with canine bone cancer in 2004 and struggled through his illness for almost two years. Very little was known about canine cancer and Luke wanted to take action to change that. Through the walk, Luke raises awareness about this disease and the little known fact that dogs get the same kinds of cancer that humans do. He is walking from Austin to Boston with THEE best company of two Great Pyrenees, Hudson and Murphy. You can support 2 Dogs 2000 Miles in many ways. Visit the website here for information, schedules and how to Puppy Up! You can follow their journey on Twitter here.

They will be walking in Washington, DC, this Friday, September 18. If you are in the area, why not join Hudson, Murphy and Luke to show your support. I will be taking my humans with me when 2 Dogs 2000 Miles come to Connecticut in February. I will keep you posted!

Sugar Plum Collars

There are very few fashions I actually wear. I’m too large for T-shirts (they make me hot, even in winter.) Shoes-on-the-Floor tries to put hats on my head and eyeglasses on my face, but he’s just being a goofball. Fashion that I enjoy wearing is my collar. And I have found a lovely little shop on Etsy that makes sweet handmade collars.

Sugar Plum Collars are handmade, fashionable collars for your dog. The shop has a great selection of collars in all kinds of colors and patterns. Matching leashes can be made, as well. Tags are available too and soon they will be carrying cat collars for our furry friends.

This is my personal favorite. I’m hoping to win it in the contest Sugar Plum Collars runs on Facebook each month. If you’d like to enter, you just need to become a fan and post a picture of your dog on their wall here.

If you haven’t already, visit Sugar Plum Collars’ shop here.

Pet Postcard Project #1

Marteeny

Our first postcard creation for the Pet Postcard Project is complete! The postcard features Teeny (short for Marteeny) and his human, Katy. Together, with Katy’s husband, Todd, they run Teeny’s Friends. It’s a charity that provides toys for dogs that are less fortunate than some of us. Teeny’s Friends is having a September Toy Drive right now, so be sure to check out how you can help here.

Please keep your pet photos and sentiments coming (email Scout here)! We have 29 more postcards to create to reach our goal of 30 pounds of food for shelter dogs. Thanks for your help with this project!
