Tails on the Trail :: Great Pond State Forest

Yo, yo, yo, my peeps! Are you ready to walk another trail? Every week A-Dog and I visit one of our local trails and record a speedy quick video, along with a speedy quick review of the trail. This is also for the reading pleasure of the Saturday Pet Blogger Hop. Welcome!

We kicked it old school this week and visited a trail we used to walk in my puppyhood called Great Pond. The trail looped around the pond, giving us glimpses of the water and its many feathered inhabitants. There were many other paths that trailed off the main path and I’m sure we’ll explore those in the future. Here’s a link to the trail map if you’re in the area: http://mappery.com/Great-Pond-State-Park-trail-map. Enjoy some hiking this weekend, people and four-leggers!

Trail Details

Distance: About a 2 mile loop directly around the pond
Difficulty: Easy
Trail: Flat, well-maintained and heavily wooded in spots.
Dog Info: Dogs OK off-leash, but abide by leashing your dog when encountering other hikers/dogs.
Location: Dirt road off of Great Pond Road, Simsbury, CT

Tails on the Trail :: Foundland

Woof! A-Dog has been muscling in on my space here for the past couple weeks for our weekly post of a trail we love. I think she thought if she was narrating and had to work the camera for the video that she was the producer. Nuh-uh. She’s the crew; I’m the producer.

Now that we have that straight… This is also for the reading pleasure of the Saturday Pet Blogger Hop. Welcome!

We visited a trail called Foundland this week. A pleasant loop of heavily wooded trail that’s plunked right in the middle of a fairly new development. Once you enter the trail, the houses disappear from view for most of the hike and you’re surrounded by beautiful forest land (my favorite!) Oh, and the photos of the SUV in its previous state are on this post. You’ll know what that references after you watch the video. Enjoy some hiking this weekend, people and four-leggers!

Trail Details

Distance: 2.5 miles for short loop, longer loop adds about 3/4 mile
Difficulty: Moderate/difficult
Trail: Can get very steep, but these areas are short in length.
Dog Info: Dogs OK off-leash, but abide by leashing your dog when encountering other hikers/dogs.
Location: Cross streets of Kingswood Rd. and Saint Michael’s Ct., Avon, CT

Tails on the Trail :: Stratton Brook State Park

Hello! A-Dog here (aka Cyn) for our weekly post of a trail we love. This is also for the reading pleasure of the Saturday Pet Blogger Hop.

This week, we explore Stratton Brook State Park in Simsbury, CT. We’re still working out the kinks of shooting our videos and I promise to say “Um” a lot less in the future and shoot more brown fur :) Details of the trail are below the video, but let me tag on a disclaimer. We are not trail experts. Please use these posts as a “Hey, we’re in the neighborhood, let’s explore!” kind of information. We just want to get you out hiking locally, wherever you may live. And please, share a trail in your area by sending a note to Scout.

Trail Details

Distance: We traveled 2 miles, but there are many trails to choose from
Difficulty: Easy (bike path) to moderate/difficult (red/yellow trails)
Trail: Yellow trail can get very steep in places. The Red trail is much more moderate.

Preview of My Doggy Plan

Dogs usually don’t make plans, but when you have a blog, it helps to think about what you’ll write and share. In the month of September, I’ll be experimenting with posting Monday through Friday and I’d like to give you a preview of my doggy plans.

First up, and the plan I’m most excited about, is Sophie’s Choice. Sophie is a one-year-old Weimaraner who will be curating dog-related finds from sites like Etsy, every other week here on the Dog Blog. Her human, Linda, is the owner of à la mode (a line of modern products for humans and their homes) and creator/editor of alamodestuff blog. Because I’m so excited, Sophie’s first post will appear tomorrow. Woof!

A-Dog and I will be recording our favorite trails that we walk, hike and run in a weekly series called Tails on the Trail. We’ll explore all different kinds of trails that are dog-friendly, providing details on distance, terrain and location. We’re even going to try a little video experiment with this one, so it should be pretty interesting. I’m hoping to explore not only local trails, but to share some of your favorites as well. Get in touch if you have a great trail that you enjoy: scout [at] riverdogprints [dot] com.

I’m going to em-Bark (ha!) on a weekly photographic journey, called Assignment: Dog 52. There are many people that participate in a 365 photo challenge, taking a daily photo for a whole year. I think I’ll find it challenging enough to provide a doggy image once a week.

Dogs Without Blogs will continue on a regular basis, but I’ve decided to change the name. The name is yet to be determined, but it will be paired nicely, like a fine wine and cheese, to the new feature on your cats. Yes, I’m talking to you humans that have cats. We’ve enjoyed cats in our family (and we kind of miss them), so send us your darling felines to feature here!

My posts on dog behavior will be peppered into the month. These are my favorites and it’s why I started this furry blog. We dogs are fascinating, no? Which is why I’m going to start a new monthly feature called Dog Blog Love. There are many dog blogs out there, but I want to shine a spotlight on those that have a unique sense of themselves and a lovely whiff of originality.

That’s a wrap on the plans. Hope you’re looking forward to the new ideas as much as I am. I’m always all ears for your input. Oh, and I’m all for an ear rub while you’re in that area.
