<img alt="om [one moment] meet up" src="http://i748.photobucket.com/albums/xx125/alamodestuff/OM_alamodemeetupbutton.jpg" class="alignleft height="90" width="125" border="0" />OM is *one moment* and is a new meetup designed to notice & relish a moment in everyday life. The meetup idea was created by Linda at her blog, a la mode stuff.

If you’d like to participate in OM, just click the button and you’ll be taken to Linda’s post explaining it all. After you read this post, of course ;)

——————————

I have many *mom* moments. With two boys, seven and four, the moments can happen fast and furious. But the one moment I chose this week to share here is a doozy to me.

My oldest is in 2nd grade. He’s very smart and is fortunate so far to have school work come easily to him. We have not had that academic struggle many families have to conquer. The same cannot be said for the social/emotional part of school.

I think I may have become complacent by thinking how *easy* these kid years were sailing along. I was comparing boys with infants and that is a true apples and oranges kinda deal. I am not an infant lover. I don’t smell that baby smell and swoon. Not that I didn’t enjoy my boys as infants, but I couldn’t wait to have a conversation with them. The kid ages of five and above are more *in my wheelhouse* as the corporate types like to say.

Kindergarten, 1st grade and the first half of 2nd grade had minimal traumas. But this early spring has been difficult. There have been tears and fights and name calling. And this drama has mostly been created by my son. He has been struggling with a bucket of emotion that he’s not equipped to handle and will tip that bucket to a point where it just dumps out and he has to let it go.

My moment is the realization that this mom-thing will only become more challenging: not the constant bone-tired care of a baby, but the complex, thought-provoking guidance on the way to adulthood. Am I ready? I don’t think I’ll ever be ready.

But I am willing.

Happy Mother’s Day!

I enjoy talking about my small business, but there is only so much my friends and family want to hear after awhile. Some of the aspects of an on-line business are fascinating to me and if I talk too long about it, I can see my loved ones’ eyes glaze over and they begin nodding, just to be polite.

The other night, I got some of my business nerdyness out of my system by attending Girls Night Out or #gno as it’s better known on Twitter. GNO is a chatfest every Tuesday night where you can tweet about various subjects pertaining to women (some men chat too.) As you’ve guessed, small business was the subject matter for my first GNO and it was terrific. You can lurk, you can network, you can admire, but stay sharp. The tweets come fast and furious. I would suggest using Tweetchat, or in the GNO I attended, a custom Tweetgrid was created. One of the panelists was Amy Bellgardt, who is @momspark and founder of Mom Made That! Not only was Amy informative, she kept the conversation going in a positive and humorous way.

Her site, Mom Made That!, gathers all things made by moms in one rich and supportive location. I think Amy says it best on her site. “Moms are the most innovative creators, writers, inventors and business owners I know. This site is my way of showcasing their amazing products, ideas, blogs and services.” How great is that?

If you’d like to shop or take a look around (perhaps buy some paper goods?), visit the homepage here. There are special discounts for Mom Made that! visitors. I’m listed on Mom Made That! and you can be too. Just click here if you’d like your business or blog to be part of moms supporting moms.
